I love that idea I thought abuot it before, but i have some questions. I was thinking using either foam core, or masonite. But how do I attach it staight up and down to table. And do I just run it down the middle and stop at the inside tracks? Mike

No actully, I kept the guy who gave it to me's track plan I just lef the cork and tore up his track, but the clayton lumber fits so nice, cause its rounded, so it was a must have. I ordered the paint for it, Aluminum and i will weather it down a bit. Mike

It's hard to beat that price. The railroad looks like a modification of Atlas' "Trunk Line",with one spur brought back to the main:

The double track should be able to handle some traffic. That will be good, if you like lots of action. I don't suppose I can induce you to back up to before the PRR and NYC started running all those streetcars? :)
I like the added yard-shelf. If you reverse the ladder, and angle the yard diagonally across the panel, you can probably get a lot more capacity, without losing too much space for scenery. Model yards are neat to view end-on, too.
Keep us posted!
Good job!
If you choose to expand I have been expirmenting with an around the wall layout supported with shelf brackets bought at Home Depot. Seems silly but it works great and I can change layout height if I so choose, or build a double decker....

Not bad, especially for FREE!!! Wish I could get free stuff. :) Here is some pics of my 4x8 with addition and the track plan I'm laying down.
Not bad. Not bad.
You might wanna send some of that stuff to a Goodwill or something and clear that yonder wall to make your yard longer all the way to it.
Keep going! Dont quit!

Hey, a guy gave me a 4x8 he had for free. So I took it home, I have been working on it, its was pretty rough, it had just track and cork. I tore out the old DC wiring and rewired for DCC laid new track cause his was rough, but followed his cork. I added a yard that is more a staging yard with scenery then anything. It will be 1950's and 1960's PRR and NYC. Here is what it looked like when I got it.
Here is what i have done
What do you think, still a long way to go. Mike
