Thanks! I guess it was a little late when I tried and troubleshooted last night. I think you were right. I tried this morning and everything was fine. Even though I was sure I had checked, perhaps my handheld throttle was still set for DC and was picking this up. I'll be more careful before I post next time. Also, I think it is probably an RS-3, although I haven't gone through all my books to try to figure out the difference.  When I have some time I'm going to open it up and see what I find inside so I can get it converted. I also have another SW1200 waiting for its Digitrax 123 installation, but that will have to wait for a long winter night. I'm going to try to get a few pictures up of the layout as an intro once I read up on file size, format, and how to get moderator permissions. Anyways, thanks again for the response.

Since you are running a Zephyr, and the loco is straight DC, the only possibility is that the Zephyr IS running a loco at address zero, perhaps left over from a previous time.  So I'd say you need to take control of address zero, and turn it down!

As far as the RS-2 conversion, if it is similar to the one (actually two) I have, it can be done.  You can even save the LEDs.  That's if it is configured with a board with an LED at either end.

Jeff But it's a dry heat!

DCC - DC Loco Problem
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, October 27, 2007 11:12 PM
Hi all. I model in N scale and have a layout that had progressed to about 30% scenicked based on C&O in the mid 60's to early 70's in southeastern Ohio / West Virginia. It's in a walk-in closet (all I could negotiate) and is U-shaped about 7.5 feet by 5.5 feet, with a plan modified from a mid-90's MR plan. My trackwork is pretty good .. usually just 15 minutes of cleaning and all runs well except for the occasional problem at a couple of spots I need to work on. I run a Digitrax Zephyr with a second throttle, have about 10 locos, 3 are DC and the rest DCC, with a couple that I've converted included an SW8 with a Digitrax 123 decoder (not an easy conversion but seem to finally have it running reasonably well). So I have a little experience but am by no means an expert. My problem is a recent eBay purchase of an old Atlas RS-2 (made in Japan, not sure of vintage). It ran OK on DC when I tried it the first few times, but now all of a sudden it runs full out as soon as the wheels hit the rails, even when not selected. Nothing can stop it. I haven't opened it up yet, but plan to for cleaning and to check out conversion possibilities. Could anybody help point me in the right direction as to what the problem might be? Thanks in advance; I read a lot of the forums but this is my first posting.
