Thanks for the quick reply CSX Robert. If I decide to go with the sound decoder, which one should I go with?

Thanks again

Why did you get the MRC Blackbox if you don't need sound? The main purpose of the blackbox is so that you can operate sound locomotives without buying a full-blown DCC system. With a non-sound equipped engine, you really don't gain anything over DC because you can not program CV's with it and you can not operate engines independently with it. If you want the features of DCC, you need to get a DCC system, and if you don't want the features of DCC and don't plan on running sound equipped engines, I wouldn't bother with the Blackbox.

mrc blackbox and decoder

Hi all, I bought a MRC blackbox and want to use it on a dc layout. I model in n scale. I need a decoder for an atlas rs-1 and was thinking I would need the mrc decoder (1641). I don't need sound. Am I on the right track?

Thanks for any input.

Tony
