I have no experience with unitrack but I have heard of it getting ballasted. I believe you should brush on glue to the sides and sprinkle on the ballast then add the ballast between the ties and glue with a droper. Personaly I would add to the sides and airbrush(or can) the entire track area to tie it together.

The Atlas track should work just fine with the Kato but you will have to be carefull at the transition point.

In designing your layout remember less is more at times. Don't try to jamb too much in. You will get to a point with every layout you build when you may become board with the way the track is, but try to resist starting over. Make a plan and get to the point where you will be detailing scenery, structures, locos, and rolling stock. Your hobby will open up that much more to you.

Decided I didn't like how my old 2x4 layout was set up. So this weekend I'm going to take it apart ,flip the board over and start anew. I have kato unitrack that I've been using, but I also have some Atlas Snap Track sitting around.

Questions I have:

1. How does one ballast Kato Unitrack and make it look decent? My first attempt didn't look so good.

2. I know Kato can be used with other track on roadbed, but anyone have any pointers?

I'll probably think up some more questions soon. :)

I'm off to work on my layout for a few then I guess, cleaning the old ballast off the unitrack.
