Asked this question myself awhile back. With cork roadbed I wound up raising the turntable. I cut thin pieces of cork and placed them under the lip of the turntable pit. I graded landscaping from about 1 1/2 inches away from the pit and the rise isnt all that noticable. Probably change that later to make the pit exposure look like cut stone and eliminate the grading. But, I think prototypically you can just walk off the edge into a pit.

I didn't switch from Homasote. This was a question for a future expansion.

If i were to use cork roadbed on my layout, would I need to raise the Turntable to match the height of the track or would I lower the track or is it at the right height already?

Note: I will be using an Atlas 9" HO Turntable
