I always put the throw-wire from the switch machine through the rivet in the center of the drawbar connecting the two point rails.  This is the strongest, most durable position..

Thanks for the quick reply I'm going to position the switch and drill the holes right now.

The tortoise doesn't care where it is in relation to the switch, so all you have to do is drill the hole for the drive wire under the existing hole.

I hand-lay turnouts and use throwbars cut from pre-perforated circuit board material - which gives me a dozen holes to choose from when installing point throwing devices, both powered and manual.
