Hello All! I've got a question about Andy Sperandeo's San Jacinto District shelf switching layout from the Track Planning Ideas from Model Railroader book. I see that the layout is designed for operation in a 9' x 12' room. Since the layout in the book doesn't really have a scale - does anyone know how much aisle space is between the Hemet Industrial district penninsula and the San Jacinto yard? How about the penninsula and Perris? How deep is the layout at it's deepest point? Has anyone built it recently? Thanks for your help...

Hi there
Exact measurements can be obtained by making measurements with a 1/2" = 1 foot scale and multiplying them by 0.9.
The factor of 0.9 is determined by taking a known distance ( 9 foot width ) and dividing it by the actual measured distance (10 feet) in a known scale ( 1/2" scale ).
This method works for any drawing if it is in proportion but not to any specific scale, when at least one major dimension is known.
For example, the peninsular is 7 feet long from where it joins the main benchwork ( which is 24" wide). At the joint the peninsular is 21" wide going down to 15" at the end.
These measurements were published in an old edition of MR Workshop if my memory serves me correctly.
