I threw all my cleaning cars away once I used metal polish on the rails over 4 years ago!

I have not had to clean any track since July of 2003.  Before that I had to clean the track every other week (when I was getting ready for my OPs session).  That was getting old real quick as I had 2500 feet of track to do.

I now have almost 3000 feet down.  I may have to break down and clean the rails again as I am now doing a lot of scenery and the glue and paint seem to always hit the rails when I apply them to the scenery.

I have used both Blue Magic and Mothers Wheel polish.  Either one seems to work well.

I like to apply it using a piece of HO cork roadbed and just put the Blue Magic Polish (liquid) on the cork and then rub a 10' section.  I then use a clean piece of cork and buff the rails.  That's it!

It really doesn't take long and not having to do it again for over 4 years is great!

That CMX is highly recommended by my friends and I have the Centerline which works well.

Track cleaning car

I'm thinking of buying a track cleaning car for my HO layout - its getting a little too big and I'm getting too old for my bright boy.  I've found two (Clean Machine by CMX Products and a Motorized car from MNP) but since they're a little pricey I'd like to get some comments or recommendations on the pros and cons of using one and which is the best.  There may be others that I don't know about too.  Would appreciate any comments.  Thanks.
