Presently, I use a Digitrax , DT 400 and program the decoders using the throttle. However, next time I will purchase a NCE Power House Pro.

You should find that functions 0-8 meet your needs.

I have installed 8 soundtrack systems in my ALCO and EMD deisels and just finished installing my first steam installation in my Bowser decapod. After much agony, I decided on the DSD 100LC best features and price ($77.00) .

I installed the decoder and speaker on a styrene strip and taped them to the inside tender top. I wound up using two 2 plug micro switches (no back up lights). Backup lights will require a 3 prong plug.

I used a 1" speaker and would recommend using a Soundtrax 3/4" speaker in a Soundtrax 2 unit baffle. I found the 1" too loud.

I bought the system from John Eberle's Digistar (See Model Railroader display advertisement). Contact:

Tim Maslyn
Digistar DCC
P.O.Box 577
Henrietta, New York 14467
1-877-531-5275
digistardcc@netacc.net
BLOCKED SCRIPTinsertsmilie

Tim is very knowledgeable and helpful. For Installation help see Model Railroader > Modeling > Controls & Electrical >Wiring With DCC Plugs & Sockets, and IHC's 2-6-0 steam locomotive DCC installation. Both of these articles are invaluable.

The only soldering I did was to the Bowser motor. Otherwise stripped the wires. A hand held small wire stripper/cutter is a big help. I stripped the wires and twisted them together and used shrink tubing.

I did need help getting the complete proper steam sequence programmed. Even with out this extra effort the default sound is ok. Find a knowledgeablle steam person and use the Soundtrax manual for reference to accompli***his part.

I have used the DSD 100LC in both steam and diesel (EMD) and am very happy with this decoder. I will use it again for future steam locomotives.

Regards,BLOCKED SCRIPTinsertsmilie('[:)]');
Smile

Happyrails
