The grand daughter of two old railroad men, I've loved trains since I was a small kid. I am still an avid watcher, a very amateur photographer and have used railroad backgrounds for some of my fiction--I write mostly women's fiction and romance and am researching for a novel about the Harvey Girls.
After living most of my life in Arizona I now reside in New Mexico--Alamogordo--where the sound of trains passing on the connecting trackage here (UP mostly with some BNSF) lulls me to sleep and brightens my days. While in college I lived for two years a short block from the ATSF main line tracks through Flagstaff, so I am no stranger to the sound of passing trains!
My housemate now is my younger brother who retired last year after thirty eight years with the D&RGW, the SP and finally the UP due to the mergers. He's a train buff too for some strange reason! We each have our own subscriptions to Trains and Classic Trains and collect a lot of video/DVD features as well. Our train watching began years ago in Clarkdale, AZ when the local come down from Drake a few times each week with the old zebra striped GP-9s as motive power. You don't see many of them anymore but they still hold a special place in my memories.
