I'm about to fit an early Crocodile to with a MTS DCC Decoder - Has anyone any advice as to which decoder to fit and how to go about it?
I've got a LGB MTS mk III decoder spare, but if another's more suitable then I'll get one of those.
Thanks
Craig
Craig your post caught my eye. I also have an old 2040 (pre -1990 I think since the box label says "Made in Western Germany"). I received several pieces of advice on this loco from veterans who recommended I NOT convert it to MTS/DCC since I intended to run it on catenary. Of course LGB MTS canot be used on the same track that also has a powered catenary overhead.
So I am thinking about scapping the catenary idea since one cannot buy G-scale catenary anymore for a reasonable price due to LGB's demise.
Anyway, I will be watching if you get some quality advice on this. You might try joining and posting this question on the Yahoo! Group "LGB Family". From what I have read, member Bob Brashear is an MTS expert and knows LGB engines pretty well, especially Kroks.

Converting older lgb locos to track powered on-board control can be a trip.
The thing you need to know is 3-wire or 4-wire motor blocks?
If three wire, you will need to figure out how to add the fourth wire and isolate one side pickup from the motor.
Or, you get smoke.
