Update....
Did go with the flagstone and the 1/2" square stock for the piers. Tried using the diluted concrete bonding agent, as used for ballast, to secure the rubble inside the piers. Didn't work very well, mite have to change the dilution ratio. So far, so good.

A very big "ditto" on that.
I have decided to change my plans and forget about the trestle. Instead I'm going to cantilever some flagstone over that area so it will have somewhat of a dry wash appearance. I did pickup a composite balister at Lowes, not the Trex but the other brand they carry. I'm going to try to rip it down to 1/2 " square stock to make some cribbing for rubble filled piers across the wash.
Try it, fix it, do it...

The Escondido store has it as a "Special Order" item only, I guess that would also be a good excuse to stop by "Tuesday Morning" and see if they have anything new to use with my "O" scale stuff as well.
