RJR Track Cleaner
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 1:30 PM

Here on my outdoor layout I have recently (2 months ago) downsized from On30 to OO
My Ready to run On30 got sold on but some of my home mades have been hanging around. This one is in it 3rd reincarnation.

Looking at some of the excellent work on here I realise this is no where near as good. The loco is not prototype based but built to serve a purpose on my Outdoor line.

In need of a loco to make sure the track was clear of squirrel deposited debris and spider webs, "The BEAST" has been born.

The shell has passed it best, it didnt look so good after a couple of sessions of paint stripper !! So  a Plymouth Switcher shell was dug out. Too small I hear you cry !!! Not when you have a sheet of plasticard !!!

The story of a loco at RJR ....

Version 1 out of the box made wider and new cab .. On30

Change to OO.... Strip off On30 additions and repaint

Bin the dead body shell and add plow/dozer to front bogie, and a DCC Decoder... Then find a source for a new body

A bit of plasticard...

Some lights run from the decoder set to flash !!!

And a new paint job..

Added my logo and its number #006 and a bit of mild weathering to tone the yellow down.

I have a pad of fine wet and dry under the fuel tank for track cleaning but think that may be to harsh. Have seen people use the rough side of hardboard ? Hardboard would probably be the ideal thickness, perhaps combined with track cleaning fluid on it ?
There is not enough room for a track rubber without a major mod to the one piece chasis / weight.

Any Thouughts ?
