First run for #25
Posted by ttrigg on Sunday, June 17, 2007 9:03 PM

Number 25 first haul of gravel to the switches beyond Dutchman's Mill that lead to Green Apple Orchard.  Above #25 is the Trolley on it's way up to Chateau de Vic with passengers.

Trolley stopped inside the shed at Chateau de Vic waiting for any passengers wanting to go back down the hill.  The trolley is on an auto-reversing unit with a circuit (built by a friend) that cuts the voltage in half when "running downhill."

OK Guys, you do not need to break out the rulers and calculators, the grade on the bridge ended up in the neighborhood of 10.5%.  The trolley can handle it for the time being.  One I get an idea of how to do it I'll be installing a "cog drive" system under the trolley.

Vic;
I did stop by MLS both days, but not knowing you were there, I failed to ask for you. Sorry.  YES I almost had a heart attack at GOLD COAST!!!!!!  I wanted to get BOTH the Connie and the Ten Wheeler, but had a very strict budget.  At the QM last year there were a couple of vendors that had very large "parts bins" (a.k.a. junk bin) and saw none this year.  Hillman's and Split Jaw had the same space as last year, but everyone else seemed to either have less space or less product.  Where were all the folks with their buildings.  I liked the (BRAIN CRAMP!!!!! insert name of the iron works folks who make such fabulous bridges and buildings from Arizona!) any way the wife fell in love with their buildings and facades.  I did pick up a couple of other goodies and am working on them now, will show them later when I get finished.

Nice find, I didnt find Censored [censored] this year Disapprove [V] just figures and detail parts...

I was at the MLS booth on Saturday, ya shoulda stopped by!

Yes the show looked smaller, but it was actually BIGGER, we just wernt crammed together like sardines like at the Rusty Boat. Some vendors who stayed away this year said they were sorry they did and would definetly be there next year. I heard the vendors sold a LOT of stuff this year. Del Oro had the biggest setup they've ever done! and there was STILL room to spare. It was a BIG improvement!

Did you see Gold Coast blowing out B'mann Connies for $199 ???? I was tempted, but was really tempted by a guy selling the worlds last Accucraft Porter (already sold when I went back) and I got to see the new brass model of the 0-4-0 Falk gypsy engine that I now want so badly it hurts!!!

   Have fun with your trains

The show seemed smaller to me, and several vendors, like St. Aubins brought less to the show. Their offset was free shipping, but to me, the advantage of buying at the show, is that I can inspect the locos and cars for damage before buying. Also, since I use some Aristo products, I can determine the "version", since the part numbers do not change even with production changes.

I do believe the next one will be bigger, because all the vendors I talked to were very happy with the venu and turnout.

Also, very nice having the live steam under a tent, not under the broiling sun.

Regards, Greg

Actually the tracks through Vine Arbor and Dutchman's Mill have been lifted out due to ground cover replacement.  The tracks should be going back into position this afternoon.  It is possible that #25 will have it's inaugural run late tomorrow.

#25 Reports for service

Rosebud Falls Scenic Railways announces the arrival of "Old #25" formerly of service on the Rio Grande Southern.  After a major rebuild at the main facilities of the Rio Grande Southern, engine #25 arrived over the last weekend at the main yards of the RbFSRWy.  Douglas Flatbottom announced the arrival on Monday last.  Engine #25 will be pressed into service on the long haul service with the apple harvest currently beginning over in Green Apple Orchard.  Mr. Longbottom stated that "the new engine will begin service to Green Apple Orchard as soon as repairs are completed on the switches near Dutchman's Mill, which could be as soon as the next few days.  This old workhorse will continue to run under the RGS color scheme until the new repair facilities are constructed at Rosebud Fall Yards later this summer."

Actually I picked up this little goodie at the Ontario BTS last weekend.  I just could not pass up the $119 price tag for the Bachman 10 wheeler (best price I've seen before has been $320).  I'm just wondering if it seemed smaller than at the QM last year to anyone else?  I picked up a few other goodies, but the wife selected a whole new forest.  Planting of the new forest will commence in the afternoon tomorrow.  After I finish it this weekend I'll let you all see the outcome of my first attempt at kit building.
