Lionel 0-6-0, B'mann 4-6-0 Pictures

O Gurus of G Guage:

As I posted earlier, I have two engines now that need TLC. What I really need are crisp, clean pixes of a side of each one, because both have the valve gearing and drive rod assys massacred. The B'mann is the Santa Special, I suppose it's called, I can find no part number or even the B'man name. I could use pixes of both sides of it, there's some missing detail on the starboard side as well.

In that vein, where would one go to look for pictures of detailing? i.e. things to be added to these low-end engines to dress 'em up? I'm probably like most, I know very little about the nuts-n-bolts of railroading. I know there're such things as steam driven air pumps, generators, etc. I just don't know what they look like and haven't found any reference material, just pixes of engines with objects of unknown use bolted on. Perhaps I should invest in some catalogs? Got any recommendations? Any recommendations on titles pertaining to scratchbuilding in general?

The Lionel engine is #101, D&RG.

Les, go to http://www.mylargescale.com & check out the Masterclass forum. Dave Fletcher has done extensive explaining of what goes where & what it is re steam locos there.

Toe:

I went there.... Yo. Perhaps I'm just tired, but that place looks like a little tougher neighborhood than here, judging from a smattering of posts I read. One thing is, I'm not exactly a 'beginner' beginner in scratchbuilding. I've built any number of engineering study and 'pre' prototype items, sometimes from verbal descriptions from some engineer. Usually from sketches. But I definitely am a beginner in G scratchbuilding. I like the 1:20.3 scale, simply because it's the largest, physically, thus easier to see/work with. Turning a scale wheel/flange is a no-brainer for me. (If I had the tread profile). But modifying say, the Lionel into something that looks like a pre-1900 loco is something else. What sort of materials? What kind of glues? Stuff like that. Body putty, what kind? Somewhere, in the voluminous reading I've been doing, I ran across a list of common scratchbuilding supplies/tools and hadn't the wit to copy it. All I'dve had to do was have the wife scan it. What I need is 'standard hobby practices' rather than detailed drawings and step-by-step instructions. I'll get it, someday. But hey, thanks for the other website, I'll visit it again when I'm fresh.
