Alan Olson's 4.5t Mack Bash
Posted by J. D. Gallaway on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 7:19 PM

Does anyone know how to contact Alan Olson?

I want to ask a couple of questions regarding the bash he did featured in this month's GR

Thanx much!

I just thought I'd show you all what my twisted imagination came up with.

The colored version represents an electric version used by the Freedom Central on the FCCorp.US subsidiary "Morrisville Road" in Morrisvile, PA.

The B&W version is the original diesel variant which has a single high-horsepower traction motor on one axle, with a diesel fuel tank 'well' in the space where the other two traction motors would have been. With only a single traction motor, the siderods were added to provide all-wheel traction.

Both versions utilize slug technology, although an electric slug is more accurately a booster since it doesn't draw its power from the mother's powerplant.

The US30-D9, or Universal Series - 30ton - DASH-9 based

The US30C-E, or Universal Series - 30ton - "C" 3-axles - Electric

I forwarded a link to this thread to Alan, so hopefully he'll get back to you.

In general, if you've got a question about something you've read in the magazine, send either Rene or Marc an e-mail. They'll forward it to the author.

Later,

K

Alan, my wife and I were both very impressed with your Mack, it looks great! We especially liked the paint and weathering on the side frames and rods. I think something like that would greatly improve the look of my Bachmann 45 tonner. Did you have to remove the side rods to paint them? Also, the gray paint, is that just automotive primer?
