I'm trying to convince some fellow O scalers to switch to R/C and some of their negative feedback relates to run times. Some say they'd need a recharge every 15 minutes. I ran my trains all day on a 7.2V 3200mAh battery.
Can you tell me your experience so I can relay this on?
David,
I have 2,000 mah AA 14.4 volts in a Bachmann LS saddle tanker with Sierra sound and lights etc.
The run time is in excess of 5 hours.
Don Sweet is experiencing similar performance with his recent "0" scale battery R/C installations.
More end more "0" scalers are choosing battery R/C, even for indoor use as it allows multiple trains on the same track without any special wiring and/or DCC.

Thanks, Tony! I put your reply up so others sitting on the fence can have a looky:

Bachmann 4-6-0 with Barry's 2-8-0 chassis, 8 pounds of lead, Sierra sound, in service, more than 9 hours.
4500 MAH NiMH batteries.
Bachmann Climax, 2100MAH NiMH, Sierra, lights, in service, over 3 hours, not sure the end, never got there.
The issue is, how long do your legs/attention span last?
My Annie with RCS/Sierra/Lights outlasted me the last time I ran...over 4 hours Easy-14.4 NiCad
...my HLW Mack w/no RCS has ran nearly 6+ hours now w/ no charge,,,,9.6vNiMH

Have a Ryobi 18V tool battery in a trailing car, not sure of the MaH rating but it'll drive my U-25 towing 15 cars and a caboose for about 3 hours.

I have equipped my Dunkirk to be powered by RC/battery trailer car equipped with a RCS Basic-2 system using a 14.4v 2.3Ah Nimh battery pack. I have run it twice so far and I am getting better than 3 hours of run time with it. Of course I have a back up battery pack that can be swapped out in about 30 secs, so, theoretically, I could run non stop.
