Ebay
lots of that stuff still there...
Saw a lionel 0-6-0, only $25
Just picked up a ol' 80s era 'Great Trains' observation car for less that $40
If not interesting in the evil-bay thing, ask around. MLS has a classified adds where you can post a "wanted" item.
FYI, Got a very low milage Buddy L locomotive, I could be convinced to let go for $50 + shipping.
Have fun with your trains
Hi Vic
Trouble is EBay is unpredictable I have just about picked up a complete Lionel train of EGR standard length only need two more freight cars to finish it.
All picked up via a friend at what I consider reasonable prices over a few weeks.
But at the moment most of it (Lionel G ) on the bay is at you have to be kidding prices.
So its very much watch and wait for the items you want at fair to low start prices.
The bargains are there to be had the trick sometimes is finding them.
regards John
Definitely hit and miss. I just saw an Aristo C-16 go for $200. I picked both of mine for about $210 total. What doubly does not make sense is the new C-16 with the beefed up drivetrain will be coming out this year and you'll be able to get one for not much more than that.

I dunno... that Buddy L may be too much a PITA due to all its limitations to invest too much effort into it.
John I thought it was EVERYTHING O-related Lionel on Ebay thats loony-tune prices.
What I saw was the G gauge 0-6-0T (was still there last night) going for around $25. I have one and currently do not care for another till I work out the quirks of it.
Secret is to use the search, develop your search keyword, to look for what your interested in.
If you see something interesting put a "watch item" tag on it and you can see where it goes. I've seen some stuff go for 'kick myself I should have bid on it" low prices to "so high an asking price no one will even bid on it" highs, like a 10 year old Lionel 'gold rush' set with an 0-6-0, a gondola, and a caboose still in its beat-the-hell-up box, starting price? $300 sheesh, thats more than a brand new LGB starter set.
PS ....no bids, no surprise huh?
I think its just Everything "O" regardless of brand
I am sure all of us that look at EBay can quote something we have seen at loony tune prices
Like a G box car or was it a reefer with a buy it now price of $100 US
Why would I, I can buy a brand new one for that price knowing all the bits are there.
Have to admit I like those Lionel tea kettles as well hope to have a D&RGW one at some stage I have the two cars that are part of the set they might be toys but I can see value in them for small space railways with a narrow gauge theme
Still haven't plucked up the courage to make the first cut on the caboose to turn it into a bullion van I figure I only get one chance at it
John for your kitbash project.
I suggest buying a few of those cheep New Bright cabooses and cars ( get one for $5 ) then practice carving on them, thats where I started. doesnt hurt so much when your carver didnt cost a fortune.
