Depends on how much you want to put in the cabinets and how much you want to spend. Want it simple and cheap. do what I have done and used plastic lunch boxes. Good catches, close fitting, mounted on the wall, side opening and feed in from the bottom. Works well.

I work in a maritime field and spend a lot of time on the water. There are so many water proof and weather resistant enclosures that I would not know how to describe them all. Take a look at a West Marine catalog and you will see what I mean. when I finally build my garden rr I will probably use an "electronics" box made of fiberglass. If you look at some boats you will see what I am describing. These boxes are usually used on "center consoles" in sport boats that have "T tops". Size and prices vary. Try shopping at a marine surplus store to save money.

I have a small layout but have put two Train Engineer receivers and a 10 amp power supply under my layout diagram and put it in a cast alum. BBQ housing. This has plenty of ventilation for cooling and is still rain tight.
Good Luck

Outdoor electrical cabinet

I am planning to begin construction of my garden railroad and need to purchase an outdoor (i.e. weather proof) electrical cabinet to hold the transformer and other system components. Problem is - I don't know what to buy. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
