New layout...
Posted by Brian In Arkansas on Thursday, March 1, 2007 9:54 PM

I am in the process of building a new layout (after a 30 years break) and many things have changed....

I have several Peco turnouts, that only power in one position.

I believe they are insulated, but how can I get them to work in either direction?

I have tested the track I have in temporary place, and when I  "throw the switch", the power is cut off to the other line.

I have read the instructions... but they dont help much.

This is an indoor model, HO scale FYI...

 Thanks,

 Brian

Hi Brian,

I used PECO insulated frog points for many years. To make both tracks live, solder jumper wires to the track to carry the current past the frog, ie: from the main line before the switch to both tracks from the switch, keep the polarity right!! You could use jumper wires between the two diverging tracks, your choice.

That is quite right, what Kim has said; i have LGB ones that were modified to be like this and i have virtually thrown them out.

Brian I would repost this question in the Moder Railroader forum, more experts in these. they'll set you right, I have used "electrofrog" switches, in the past in HOn30, but I HATED wiring them, its a real pain, and I've spent 10 years forgetting about them. Good Luck
