Here's something I bashed from an older Bachmann Sidetank Porter. It has a 6v gell cell in lieu of the engine compartment. I also raised the cab.

Thanks for the advice i got a bachman siderod motor block off ebay for my birthday and i have most of my engine done it's preety good looking and it has remote control and i can switch from track power to battery.i also have a gondola, boxcar, a tankcar, and a caboose witch are all scrach built.

First of all -welcome to the wonderful world of scratchbuilding!!!

It has been noted (at length) that 7/8th scale on 45mm track is a North American "thing" while 16mm on 32mm track is a European "thing". Being a UK resident I model in 16mm scale and I am happy to say that I finally kicked David Vergun into trying 7/8ths scale...

There are no offical books at either of these scales -you have to crib from books for other scales -or simply make it up as you go along -which is what most of us do.

You might like to examine the section marked "Kitchen Sink Engineering".... Because in my case -that is where I do most of my building. Apart from a piller drill and a workmate that is my entire "machine shop".

Don't be afraid to have a go, you have nothing to loose -and a great deal of pleasure to gain!!!
