Much of what has been said here is quite right; and i agree that it its largely rhetoric, what LGB has to say. But i do not take the chance and lose warranty, i only use LGB power equipment.

It is very good stuff and i am very happy with it.

Cutting corners is just that, cutting corners and some times you pay a very high price for this; when you least expect it.

If your using at Aristo TE make sure you have it set to linear, "NOT PWC".

There have been numerous reports of strange behavior when trying to run LGB locos using Aristocraft power supplies. Some locos have no apparent trouble, but others grossly malfunction.
For example, many -- possibly all -- LGB 20670 Track Cleaning Locos will not function when using an Aristocraft "Train Engineer" regardless of the setting of Train Engineer "mode" switch to pulse or linear.
Remember, modern LGB trains are filled with all sorts of electronics for lighting features, digital sound, Multi-Train System compatibility and so on. Those electronics are engineered to operate on power with certain characteristics, like voltage and waveform. LGB power packs and throttles, of course, are engineered to output power with those characteristics. Other power supplies may not.

Just for the record, I run all my LGB locos on PW and have had zero problems...of course mine  are plain Jane ones that don't have MTS or sound cards (don't want them, either)

If your LGB loco ever has to go in for repair on warranty always tell them you use one of their power packs, just have the info to hand on which one you say you have, just in case they ask! As said, never use LGB on pulse width control or it will be going in for repair.

From experience, an MTS-equipped loco run on PW often lets the smoke out.

It will cost $150 to fix, not covered by warranty, and it will do it again.

I was surprised and perplexed when I read that same text for my LGB F7A Diesel loco.  I use a non-LGB controller and transformer, and I have had no problems at all. 

I think LGB puts that kind of language in the instruction manual for the same reason your auto manufacturer does - to first encourage its customers to purchase more products from them!  

 

Also, that language saves LGB liability from negligence, etc.  My advice to you is to take that language with a grain of salt.  Use your best judgment / ask your local train store professional or others for their opinions.  I think your chances are extremely good that your existing powering set-up will work just fine with your new LGB loco.
