Repairing an LGB Stainz
Posted by Benjamin Maggi on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 9:19 PM

I just bought a used LGB Stainz on Ebay and it looks like it needs a new headlight piece, and a front coupler (and a good cleaning.) I would like to eventually clean it up and repaint it in Blue and Black, with Gold pinstriping. Is there a website that details how the Stainzs are put together, or an online parts guide? Are there many different versions mechanically (like the Bachann ten-wheeler) that I should know about?

First LGB engine. I now have 3 engines, 10 feet of LGB track, and nothing else!

Sorry to bug you Ian, but I bet you are the best source for this info too! Figures, an American has to ask an Australian about a German train!

In the alternate, is there a website devoted to these engines that could help me out, much like George S's website or something like that. Googling has not turned one up, but surely there must be a fan-devotion page out there!

Hi scoobster28

First thing you need to do is establish which version of the Stainz you have there are diferences between models LGB of America should be able to help ID which year and model

Once that is done they should be able to supply the relevant maintenance sheets and also the spare parts you need "hark I hear a scream could it be scoobster's wallet"

Absolutely every part of every item of loco or rolling stock is available as spare parts but they are expensive.

Sounds like its time you got a couple of wagons and a drovers cabooseBig Smile [:D]

regards John

Thanks for the reply John. I am working on building a 1:29 scale model of the Arcade and Attica Railroads (NY shortline) tourist consist, complete with 44 tonners, boonton coaches, composite gondolas, and baldwin steam engines. So far, the 44 tonners are superdetailed and at the painters. The coaches are next.

For a change of pace, I thought I would also collect some shorty european trains so that I could run something unique in my future garden railroad.

When the engine arrives, I will take it apart and find out what exact one it is.
