Plymouth scratch job
Posted by FJ and G on Monday, February 5, 2007 6:27 AM

BB the beagle is guarding the Plymouth, made entirely of wood and galvanized steel. The Lil Critter should arrive in the mail today and I'll hijack the engine out of it and install it (and wheels). Then I can secure the roof, cab, add lanyard, install DPDT switch (onboard battery power), and shellac the engine.

The bandsaw was crucial to making the intricate cuts and since I don't have a scroll saw, I had to drill holes for the windows and carefully use a jigsaw and then file and sand the edges (tedious).

The stack is made from a drywall mud bucket handle, the bell is handcarved, the grill is soldered copper cut from plumbing pipes, the roofing is galvanized steel. The shades are from my bluejeans which I blew out the bottom while deadlifting.

Hey Dave

Nice locomotive! Nice work! Pretty nice dog, too! Let us know how it runs when the power block arrives. You'll love it. There is nothing quite as satisfying as watching something you've made hauling cars around the yard.

Keep up the good work!

Loved your dog; the loco looks a bit funny but well made, i wouldn't mind one.

My two passions are trains and beagles... so your pictures were great as well. As an aside, your beagle must be very well-behaved to not "play in the garden."

Keep up the good work!

Thanks, guys,

Scoob,

She plays in the garden but respects the trains and track and does her business away from operating areas. She also keeps the rabbits at bay so my plants don't get eaten.
