Hello...I'm looking for some help. I'm VERY new at the train thing, however have always had an interest. I recently purchased an Lionel "O" scale "ready-to-run" set and would like to build a shelf around a room to run it on. My initial plan is to have a very simple, single rail around the 12' x 14' room. My thought was to have a shelf just wide enough to carry the track. I was looking for a very clean look, in that, I wanted to minimize the use of under shelfing brackets. This will be in a lower level of a tri-level, with a drop ceiling. Obviously, I have very little room to work with. I have exactly 6" from the top of my door casing to the ceiling. However, I believe this to be enough room using a 1/2" to 3/4" board. Being that I'm planning on using a very narrow shelf, I was looking for opinions on how to secure the shelf in a way to keep it "clean" but sturdy. I would love to see any photos of shelf top displays that you may have and/or pics of the contruction phase of that display.
Thanks. My e-mail is: rejaw@sbcglobal.net
