Because THEY thought you might need 1 or 2 of them
Greetings,
The ads seem to be something new, or in the place that they now are is new. What I don't follow is are they supposed to be there or not! They are quite obtrusive; which I suppose is they way it is meant to be.

That is the name of the game. It takes money to put a web site up, may as well make money off of it.
Doesn't matter the medium, eyeballs are worth $$. Since my paycheck (both in real life and from GR) is based on ad revenues, I grin and bear it. Wish it wasn't that way, but there's a reason PBS stations have pledge drives.

Its not the adds themselves that annoy me its the popping up and down. Good luck with Bergie, what can i say.

Hello again,
This afternoon I sent an email to Rene' regarding the placement of the Ad's. Rene' forwarded my email to a Mr. Eric Bergstrom at Kalmbach Publishing who is the Internet Publishing Manager. He informed me that the LOCATION of the ad's was the choise of Kalmbach Publishing and NOT Google.
At this time I would suggest that EVERYONE that is ANNOYED or UPSET by having the Ad's being placed between the 1st and 2nd posting of a thread or by non-related item's send an email of complaint to ebergstrom@kalmbach.com and let yourself be heard.

Hi All,
All of a sudden I am getting those GOOGLE Ad"s between the first and second post in a thread. I don't mind Ad's but keep them at the bottom of the page where they belong not after the first post in a thread.
Ron
As long as the ads pay a fee to Kalmbach to support these forums I have no problem with them. If I choose to read their ad, then that is what I have seleced to do. If I choose to ignore the ad, then that too is my choice. Just as long as they pay money to support these forums, all the better. If someone asks where can I find . . . . ? I also have no problem someone telling them to look at one or more of the ads posted in the magazines. Those ads also help pay to maintain the forum. On the flip side, I do not expect to see a posting where someone says "buy from me"!!

I am with you all on this i hate them, i get them in my newspaper i read every morning. Even worse the bloody things pop up all the time while i am doing the crossword.
What forum law states:
"- No advertising. Our forums should not be used as an advertising medium for companies who want to promote their business or products, or by individual who want to promote their items for sale or their eBay auctions. Our users are the drivers behind this policy. They don't want the useful information in our forums watered down with posts that are nothing more than advertisements. If you'd like to advertise on our site, scroll to the bottom of this page and click the "Advertising Info" link."
Companies IE: Google
I would like to know about the AD software also there you have send it to me on email.
The advertising that I see are UK companies and they are sposored by Goog;e, They appear with the first post of a topic. They are not pop-ups but four separate links to railway orientated retailers.
Kalmbach has a policy of prohibiting advertising on these forums, so you need to notify them of who the offenders are.
I use Internet security software that has "anti-advertising" and "anti-spam" turned on, so I dont see any such advertising anywhere.
Advertising may be related to the browser you're using, too, and may not even be coming from the Garden Railways web site.
