Thanks for the invite but thats harder to do than you would think as i live 8000 miles away.

Thanks guys,I decided to use stucco on top of the plaster ,and dirt on top of that and it works great,these mountains are not going to be ruined any time soon,they are hard as a rock.
Yes plaster of paris or foam outdoors is not so good even if it onlyrains a few days a year, other elements will knock it arround besides rain. But you could do what has been suggested or even make up a concrete (cement) mixture properly coloured and coat it with that. The shape will be retained but it will also stand up to the weather.
I've seen a product that is an epoxy concrete driveway sealant that may work. I don't recall the name of it, but it comes in a gallon can and might be available at Home Depot or a Lowe's. The one I saw here was at a Sutherland's Home Improvement store.
On a portion of my layout, I had a rather large pile of excess dirt that I needed to cover up after laying track on top of it. I sprinkled dry post hole concrete mix over it and then wet it down. After two or three coatings of concrete, it's not totally waterproof but is holding up under the Arizona summer monsoon rains.
I just made a plaster of paris mountain(small)with a natural rock bridge(also of plaster) going over the track.
Painted it and threw some dirt on it,it looks great!!
But,I'm stupid and didnt know the plaster cant be used outside.
I live in phoenix where it rains like 9 days a year,do you think it would hold up ok? or should I just throw a tarp on it when it rains?
Or should I apply something else ontop of it like stucco? Just looking for ideas.
Edit: I used alot of plaster on this thing,not just a light coat.....its pretty thick and feels like concrete.Maybe I can apply a sealant to it?
