Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, December 30, 2006 11:11 PM
Hi all I am wanting a new LGB OBB diesel for a christmas present to myself. LGBs Depesche magazine identifies some changes to the model over the previous version. I'd be interested in others comments on the model. AND especially some pictures of it. Jack - are you able to help here? Thanks in Advance

Well, Seeing as though no-one responded, I thought I would do a follow up on the LGB 2095 series diesel that Nurnberg released last year.

I contacted my European supplier, Peyker Modelbahn, and managed to get a really great price on this engine. Ernst arranged for Deitz Sound and an MTS module to be fitted, and the whole thing shipped to Australia. (see www.peyker.com)

The package arrived yesterday, so today was the first chance to play with her.

This is my third 2095 - I love them - I think they are a handsome locomotive, and a great puller. So I got all three out, and made a short video - that way you can see and hear her running.

I am pretty impressed with the model. Lehmann have added more detail to the roof, including new lifting lugs, much better definition to the hatches and a proper fan (my only gripe - it doesn't spin!).

The roof is also white, not grey as in past models. And the red is a lighter shade.

Lights are better too. The other models I have use plastic to transmit the light, this one has separate globes. And there are lights in the cab.

Builders plates on the side are smaller than the 1986 version.

The Dietz sound system is great, I don't think the vid does justice to the unit. Its a lot of fun to play with, and rounds out the loco very nicely (it is much better than the "chuff" sound in one of my Stainz').

Heres a link to the video;

I did call the earlier locos gearboxs "sandwich" - I believe that they are actually the Clamshell version.

I wish Lehmann the best. Despite the scale issues and the "toy" line, they do produce some great trains. I can only hope they remain in and manufacturing from Germany.

Next thing is to go to Austria and see one or two of the real thing!

Look forward to your feedback.
