Shoot, if all you need is a test track then email me offline and you can bring it by my place and we'll give it a go-round on the Dixie D.  Dale's has a short test track also that you can use for free, if you want them to give it a technical inspection then there will be a small fee, reasonable to pay I think because these guys are trying to run a business.  The problem with Dale's is the sheer amount of antique and collectable trains they have on the shelves for sale, plus all the accesories.  It's a virtual museum of old toys and trains.  Like I said, don't bring the credit cards!

Thanks for the help! I was hoping to run it on a track somewhere but I guess these guys testing it will work too. Do you think they will charge much to give it a once over?

I recently bought an LGB 2-6-0 off ebay for my dad in SC. Before I ship it to him I would like to make sure everything is in good working order. The guy I bought it from said he ran it before he put it on ebay, but we all know how that goes sometimes. I would like to check it soon so I can ship it back if need be. Thanks for your help!!!

Howdie Art!  Welcome to the forum!  Take the loco to Dale's Train Station at Military Circle mall in Norfolk, they are on the back side of the mall across from the Costco on Poplar Hall drive.  Look for the wall sized LIONEL logo.  They are an authorized Lionell and LGB dealer and repair shop.  They are not open on Sunday or Monday.  Take only a minimum amount of money and no credit cards or you will quickly max out your bank account, Dale's got some really nice stuff!

If you lack technical skills and equipment, you may want to ask your local hobby shop (LHS) to check it out.  If you want to try MacGyvering (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacGyver) something together, hook a 9-volt battery to one wheel on each side of the locomotive.  The wheels should move, but I can't say how well.  Some models are designed to be run on the track, not suspended over a battery.
