Import/export
Posted by stanleyriegel on Thursday, September 14, 2006 1:20 PM

Can anyone help with some information on exporting used LGB locomotives/rolling stock from the USA to Canada. I am working on a private purchase and want to know if the purchase is subject to duty on entry into Canada. I thought someone out there may have shipped into Canada and know the answer to that. I know it is subject to our sales tax. I expect there is some number that describes the category. If so, what number must be used on the form? I hope my question is clear.

I don't know what the answer is in Canada but here inAustralia second hand stuff is not supposed to attract any charges at all. But i understand that new stuff attracts 20 % i think it is recognition tax or something else equally bizar and 10 % sales tax.

I have heard that if you say loco is a present  9 times out of 10 they will let it go though with no charge for tax. I think it depends on the person at the desk as to how it goesMy 2 cents [2c] Can you collect it? that is another way of getting it home at no cost
