Not sure what you mean about U terminal.

The insulators are used between the rails you want to insulate?

Thanks for your help

"U" terminal to outside rails.

Fixed power tp one side of signal, insulated track section to other.

Insulated is the outer rail, BTW.

Black tape is not going to cut it.

If you have old curved sections, rip one apart for the insulators.

(In a pinch, a cut up Cheerios box will do).

Insulating pins at both ends of the insulated rail.

(in a pinch, wooden matchsticks less the burning part).

Insulated track - need some help!
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, August 30, 2006 10:12 AM

I have 3-rail O-scale Lionel track.  I want to use an insulated track section to trip a crossing signal.  When one rail is insulated off from the rest, the signal still trips.  I tried using just one piece of track and the signal trips.  I'm sure the insulated rail is not touching on either side - I even put tape inbetween to make sure it wasn't touching.

I've tried it on a few pieces of track and get the same result.  What am I doing wrong?
