I think they're not particularly valuable, but a great start on garden railroading Wink [;)] I traded off my trains for a bunch of junk when I was 14 or so. Silly kid.

I will be keeping it for my life time. It was my first good train set when I was around 5-6 years old. I have alot of good memorries with my trian.  My love of trains started with this set.  About 4 months of having this set I have earned enough money to buy a new car. I work with my mom at our laundrymat. I swept the floors and emptied the drier vents. Any money that I found in the trapts I got to keep and my mom paid me a dollar a day to go down with her. You know to teach me the value of a doallr. Well I would save my money up and buy a new car when ever I could. Once I had bought what is in the picture. I was saving for a large steamer. I can not remember what it was though. I remember the steamer that I wanted was longer then my engine house (not pictured) so with the tender it was over 36" long. I am almost for sure it was Lionel and had a price tag of around $600.oo  Well I had been saving for a year or so and had about $300.oo and my mom and dad was going to give me cash for my birthday. Well I saved up another $100 and went one friday after school to buy it and they had closed down.  I had no clue where to go to buy any more train stuff, so after a year went by I took it up off my bed room floor and it hit the closet. Only to reapear for 2 weeks around christmas.

Ok about the rail cars, all of my collection is Lionel.
cars are numbered from the engine back
1. My "Old Red" Lionel Engine.  That is just what I named her. (part of set)
2. Open top hopper car
3. Gondola
4. Tank car
5. Box car
6. Log car (part of set)
7. Caboose (part of set)
8. My Light car.   Now my light car was normaly infront of my engine so the enginer could see better!

As for Reliability I am going to say it is great. I have NEVER had a problem with this engine before. I have replaced the light when it burnt out a time or two.

I have no idea as to its financial value or reliability.

But I do see a value in keeping it and using it as a starting point for a garden railway.

I cannot get a good clear view of the first and last cars in the train could you give catalogue nos and descriptions of them.

I am intrigued by the US answer To Hornby Trains.

Mainly due to a lack of knowledge which I would like to fix

A friend of mine once had what I think was a GP-7 with sound that was pritty cool . Don't know what it was worth . Try going on E-Bay and looking up what you have .

Sorry to say they aren't worth much. They weren't great runners, or very much to scale. Some people use the Atlantic to kitbash, it is the only Atlantic in large scale. The track is not very sturdy compared to LGB, Aristo, USA, etc.

Everyone else, chime in if  I'm off base here.

I was wondering if some one could let me know ruffly what all of my old Lionel G scale train items are worth.  It is not for sale, I would just like to know.  I have all of the original boxes for everything, every thing is still in great shape and perfect working order.
I have several extra pieces of 5Ft. radius curve track, extra 12" and 36" straits, and one right hand switch.
