Farm toy scale

You might consider these; http://www.catfish-hollow.com/cast.htm  They aren't perfect scale models, more like old cast iron toys, but I've used them for years. They are nominally about 1:25, but as was mentioned could be used to represent a smaller engine in 1:22. I think they are probably a bit on the small side for 1:20.3 though

Just helped our toy dept manager (Wal~Mart) set teh Fall counter displays.  There is a full line of "John Deer" equipment in the range of 1:20~1:22.  Farm tractors, road graders, back hoe, bucket loader, lawnmowers (both tractor and riding) etc.  The are made by "Metal Die Cast" and of course are metal with a good outdoor paint on them already, but a few quick coats of clear spray wound not hurt.

In 1:24, a 10' long item would be 5" long.

In 1:22.5, it would be 5-1/3" long.

In 1:20.3, 5.9" long.

In 1:16, it would be 7.5" long.

 

That's a big difference....

How much out of scale is 1/16th? That seems to be the "popular" scale for steam tractors.

Somewhere between 1:20 and 1:24. Many toy tractors are nominally 1:24, and other around 1:18, which may work as well. The "nice" thing about farm equipment is that sizes varied, but general appearance was rather similar across a product line.

What scale would be good to go with Bachmann and HLW in farm toys( steam tractors/kerosene)? I am designing a 1850 -1920's era railway garden. Thank you!
