In my case the posting pix problem is being caused by the version of IE I am using.
Currently with IE I do not even see the reply button on any postings.

Using Mozilla Firefox I have absolutely no trouble posting pix or links. As long as I type in the relevant code.
A real pain when compared to the old way of doing it.

Best wishes,

Tony Walsham

OK, lets filter the image through uploading to a photo web site, select a photo, right click, cut and paste the properties URL of each photo onto a notepad file skeleton with pre loaded img tags, then cut and paste again to post a photo.  Lets see if the multi step computer journey to happy posting works:

Well, whatja know!  That only took about 10 minutes to get posted.  Hey, you know, that photo reminds me of something, it's a great day, the weather is nice, I think I'll log off and go for a ride on the bike and not waste my time posting photos.

Ben, I agree! I must admit though I do not accept change very well. It took me forever to figure out how to reply only to find out I was not logged in! I miss the emotion ( smiles icons) as well.

Erik, as you can see I can now post using the method I described.

If you can get rid of that hyperlink text default on the GR preview box, it would probably help a lot of us.

Regards,

Bill

Hi Guys,

I think I just figured it out. Take a look at the two tests below. It's the exact same image link. The second one works, while the first one doesn't.

The difference? When I pasted in the first link, it was already anchor text; that is, hyper-linked blue text. That's what our forum software is having a problem with. So, in the second text, I took the hypertext, pasted it into Notepad to make the link plain text. Viola, it worked!

So, if you're having a problem with posting photos, convert your text to plain text.

Test 1:

http://1stclass.mylargescale.com/BillC/fr37cp.jpg" border="0" />

Test 2:

Here's a copy of those links (with an intentional * behind the img so the system won't actually display the image) so you can see what I'm talking about:

Test 1:

[img*]http://1stclass.mylargescale.com/BillC/fr37cp.jpg[/img*]

Test 2:

[img*]http://1stclass.mylargescale.com/BillC/fr37cp.jpg[/img*]

Notice how the URL in Test 1 is hyperlinked and the URL in Test 2 isn't. That's where the problem is happening.

Please try this out and let me know if this solves the problem. (My fingers are crossed! Big Smile [:D]

Good idea Vic, I think I should start posting over at MLS.

Victor, you are correct.  When you generate the code at an MLS preview box and then copy and paste it here to post it works.  In addition, I noticed on the GR preview screen here that the code and url are automatically underlined when you compose it here.  Using the MLS preview box to compose it, then pasting it into the GR forum preview box, you do not get that underlined effect.

To me it looks like the underlining is what messes things up.

I hope this provides some insight for Erik in solving this problem.

Regards,

Bill

I'll repeat myself, post your pics over at MLS, then edit and copy and paste it over here, avoids all the limitations of this new format

I brought up the subject of posting pix last week in this thread;

http://www.trains.com/trccs/forums/874677/ShowPost.aspx

BTW I had to manually type in the - code to get the above to link becasue the "create link" button does not work.

In my case the garbage code like shown in an above posting was caused by the version of IE I am using.

I can post pix by creating the HTML tags manually but only in Mozilla Firefox and what a pain..

Oh for the days of the old forums where it was all made so easy.
The webmaster needs to bring back the buttons for images etc.  ......and make the ones they already have, work.

Best wishes,

I can't seem to post photos either, which is a real shame as I met up with Capt Bob over the weekend and scored a really hot deal on a custom, autographed limited edition box car.  But alas, without a picture, the description is worthless and I don't think that telling and not showing is a good way to share.

I also find myself not coming here very much because it's just too much work to get something posted.  Sad really, I've met some really great people on this site.................

The above is a test for Erik to illustrate the nonsense code we are getting when we attempt to post a photo using the standard image tags.  I am using Microsoft Internet Explorer via Comcast.

Erik, below is the url of the photo:

I am but one of several with whom I have discussed the site who say that they aren't checking it or using the site nearly as much because it is a heap more finding and clicking and not at all user friendly!

used to check daily, but am now down to about weekly unless I'm sitting around killing time waiting for a summer squall to pass or something like that!    I'm finding it a PITA!

Hi Ben,

In regards to logging in, you need to go through the Customer Service Center so we can tell if you're an active subscriber. However, if you click the remember me box when you log in, the site will remember you and you won't need to log in every single time you visit. Please keep in mind that your internet browser must accept cookies. If you're clicked the remember me box and you still need to login upon each subsequent visit, your browser (or possibly some internet security software you might be running) is blocking cookies. If that's what's happening, check your browser's security settings in the Tools menu (or add us to your trusted sites list in your security software).

In regards to posting photos, check this post: http://www.trains.com/trccs/forums/874677/ShowPost.aspx

If these don't work and you need additional help, please e-mail me or our Customer Sales & Service department (customerservice@kalmbach.com). Contacting us directly is the best was to receive a prompt reply (if you post something in the forum, we might miss it).

Best regards, Erik

Yeah Ben it can be a pi$$er!

Theres been alot of griping over on MRR, and not just that its less user freindly, most of the complaints are about  having real trouble due to software compatability difficulties. I call it the Econo-format, because to me its been done on the cheap, but hey, its not my forum and its still a free lunch, so I've been keeping alot of it to myself. If I Whine too much I might get a block of Wisc cheese hurled at me to go with my whine... I have noticed a huge drop off in activity over here since the big boom. I hope it isnt permanent. Could just be the summer rush...time being better spent outside "making hay while the sun shines" Winter will tell. I aint got no outdoor or indoor layout till we get the dam permit issue resolved on the new garage, still no word from our structural engineer. Grrrr.

My computer usually keeps me logged on until I turn it off or delete my temp internet files.

I really dislike the fact that I have to hand type in the [img] brackets. But I been doing this lately, since I tend to post first on MLS since its still far easier to insert multiple pics, Once I'm done writing my post, added the pics etc, I'll post it, read it to make sure everything came out OK, then hit the "edit" icon, highlight everything and "copy" either from the menu toolbar or from the right click option, Once I've copied it, I'll come over here, go to the right forum for the post, hit New Topic, and use the Paste command to add the MLS text in the topic field, then post. It gets around the whole BS of not being able to add pics easily. Give it a try.
