MTS decoder question

Hello All:
I recently installed a decoder in an older loco and I connected the smoke unit to the decoder. My question is how do you turn the smoke on and off? Unfortunately, I am not able to decipher the information that came with the decoder. Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
John O

It depends which function lead you connected it to, the diagram should say which pin is which function, if not put a few drops in the unit and try pressing each number in turn and wait to see if anything happens. If nothing still happens then either the wiring isn't correct or your smoke unit has died.
Sorry can't be more help without knowing how you connected the unit to the decoder, have you got pics or can you describe what is wired to each pin and I'll try and work it out.

Paul:
Thanks for the response. I do not have a picture, as I would not want to take the engine apart after the time it took me to get the decoder installed. [:)]
However, here is what I can tell you: I installed the 55021 decoder and wired the smoke unit to the pins labeled "Voltage U+" and "Function F1." The smoke unit works fine and continually puts out smoke. I attempted to push all of the various remote buttons through trial and error, but none seem to stop the unit from smoking.
Any help is appreciated.

John O

Ok John I'll have a look at the stuff I've got and see if I can work it out, at least it works so we just need to figure out why F1 doesn't seem to control it.
I don't claim to be an expert but I've not blown up a decoder yet and I'm still getting a lot of help with programming stuff. I now use the PC interface for MTS and my NMRA HO stuff, great once all the software is up and running.

Yes John I agree with what Paul has said; there will be a button you can pu***o actuate the smoke function and i too will look up my instruction booklets but i can give you a pretty good idea by process of ilimination.
It is unlikely to be 1 to 4 (bell, whistle, brakes and announcement) nor will it be 9, which is lights. 8 is usually sound on or off. So i guess it will be 6 or 7. 7 is for track cleaning on my track cleaning loco, so that may be a good bet.
Quite often when it is working you will get a fairly loud "poing" sound, to atrat.

Hello Ian:
I will give that a try tonight. Thanks to you and Paul for taking the time to look at this. You would think that either the decoder instructions or the remote instructions would have this information listed, wouldn't you?

Hi have you sorted your smoke prob yet? An item in one of the mags I was reading stated that on older models a bit of extra fixing maybe required. pop on to the LGB web site if it is an LGB you have got there is a section that you can ask for help on. If not LGB try manuf web site
