The Valley Flyer used smooth side equipment, and ran behind a semi-streamlined Pacific.

Cheers!

If your concern is looks then you will have the same problem with smooth side and fluted side cars. I have all three( no LGB ), they work well on 8ft diam track .Remember the bigger the radious the longer the car. A scale 70ft car (baggage) looks good 8ft diam. but will bearly work on 6.5ft Diam.

The head is gray, hands don't work , back is weak, legs give out, eyes are gone, money go's and my wife still love's Me.

I don't ever remember seeing a picture of streamlined Santa Fe equipment behind a Mikado. But Pacific's, Hudsons and Northerns all operated streamlined equipment. The Santa Fe streamlined the Chief in 1938 and assigned new Hudsons between Chicago and La Junta and new Northerns from La Junta to Los Angeles.
Santa Fe operated shorter streamlined trains behind a single E unit or in some cases A-B sets of EMD F3 or F7 diesels and toward the end of RR operated passenger trains just prior to Amtrak it was not unusual to see a single PA powering a single coach on the remnants of the Golden State.
Hope this helps.

Prototype question - streamliners
Posted by pimanjc on Friday, June 2, 2006 7:52 PM
Would Santa Fe streamliner type cars have ever been run behind a Mikado or Pacific steam loco? If not, then would the smoothside cars have been run behind an F-?-AB Warbonnet lashup? Heavyweights are out of the question due to track turn radius.
Thanks,
JimC.
