Thanks folks! [:)] As I said I'm rounding up parts to build once I'm in our new home (1 - 2 years) and I'm looking forward to working on a garden railway. My wife and I love landscaping, we were doing it for friends as a side buisness until we had a child. but as he is getting old we see how all of us would benefit from having one.

As for my HO scale layout. I would NEVER get rid of that! I've invested waaaaaaaaay too much to just back out of it and sell everything off, and anyways, I can't get the same amount of C&O stuff in G scale as I have in HO. Custom (HO) painting and weathering is the part of my hobby that helps pay for itself. Actually it is funding both the HO and G railroads.

THanks again

DANO

I find the Freezer book to be the one I tend to look at most, even thought my layout is different in many regards from the ones described, the basic info seams best here.

Dano,

There isn't a wealth of books out there, but there are some:

Beginner's Guide to Large Scale Model Railroading (out of print but you can still order here): http://www.sidestreet.info/railways/beginner.html

Garden railroading: getting started in the hobby: http://store.yahoo.com/kalmbachcatalog/12217.html

Getting started in garden railroading: (not sure if this is still in print, try amazon.com)

and there's a video How to build your garden railway: http://www.sidestreet.info/railways/howto.html

----------

BTW, I read 3 garden RR books but found much more useful info than in the books here on this forum and on the large scale one

My experience has been very similar. Books are helpful for an overview from the 10,000 foot level but the internet and forums are where most of my info has come from. The great thing about the forums, too, is that you can get answers to specific questions almost immediately.

A trip to your public library will yield plenty of books on garden railways, as well as books on carpentry, landscaping, ponds and other useful skills. You are in for a most challenging and rewarding experience, once you go garden you may be inclined to sell off your HO scale or trade up for G. Trust me, there is no going back!

Howdy folks, wanted to introduce myself as I have never been in this forum due to running HO for years and just now am collecting parts to start a garden railway. I wanted to know if anyone had any good books they would/could reccomend on garden railways, contruction and what not?

Thanks
