Got these current ratings off the zimo site, I'll sort the pics later and send them tonight Uk time!
Cheers Paul

MX69L
"Low cost" type:
no functional restrictions (all features and outputs like MX69S) but
no heat sink (therefore only 2 A instead of 3 A) and
no SUSI plug (but soldering pads).

MX69S
Standard version with 3 A - motor and 8 function outputs;

MX69V
As MX69S, but:
improved heat sink (therefore current up to 5 A, when there is some heat conductance with metal parts),
14 function outputs, second 16-pin connector for outouts, inputs, infrared, etc.,
low voltage supply for function outputs, 1,2 V, adjustabley to any voltage by resistor - useful for low voltage light bulbs, smoke generators, servo supply, etc.

MX69A
planned for 2006
Special version for direct replacement of an LGB "on-board decoder"; MX69 in "Sandwich" with an onboard adapter board (from ARNOLD HÜBSCH). All connectors for the original cables from the LGB locomotive. Shipped with necessary parts for mounting. Ca. 70 x 40 x 25 mm.

David do you have a reasonably fast email? I can email the pics of the decoder install in the dash-9 if they are any help.
The NMRA DCC standard is slightly different from MTS as well, the loco will run in reverse compared to the LGB ones, just program the relevant CV for reverse instead of normal direction using your MTS base unit. Make sure you read the section on which CV to program to set series commands and 14 speed steps as well.
hope this helps some more

David
Sorry for slow reply been on holiday for a week and electronic free! www.zimo.at is the zimo homepage, the manuals are on there.
I got my zimo decoders from digitrains- www.digitrains.co.uk in the UK, sure they'd help you out if there is no-one in the US, email them and they will get back with helpful info.

Jack mate;

I have written an article heavily favouring LGB, regarding reversing loops and the automation thereof. Our local importer is probably going to send it over to Depetsch for publication; would you like to read a copy? If so send me an email and i'll forward it to you.

I'd have to refer this one to the service techs in San Diego- 800-669-0607
Ask for Joe or Barry (I run all LGB locos ).

David mate;

They are called Dipswitch so try dipswitch or dccdipswitch.

David;

There is a mob who are actually right on top of this subject. They are so good i go into their website regularly to educate myself; and thats a compliment i can tell you.

I can't remember who they are but i will find out and advise you next entry.

They will certainly point you in the right direction.

The new LGB or even Massoth decoder is probably not up to the job as its peak current rating isn't high enough, if the loco stalls you'll burn it out.
I had the same problem with my dash 9 as it draws about 2 amps on load and nearly 5 amps when stalled. I spent a lot of time trying to find a solution and finally found another manufacturer compatible with MTS and NMRA through Digitrains in the UK.
Find a stockist for Zimo MX69 series, I've used the MX69V in my dash 9 so all motors run off one decoder (they also do two other lower rated decoders, L & S - I think, which might be enough for the SD45)
Cost me less than two LGB decoders that would be necessary without worrying about speed matching the two decoders.
You can program the MX69 series to use 14 step speed and pulse chain for functions using the MTS base station. It will also accept acceleration etc. Have a look on the Zimo website and download the manual all the details are in there and it even managed to explain individual Bit programming to me and thats a miracle!
The DCC wiring diagram off the Aristocraft website is useful as well, it tells you how to use the dummy plug on the circuit board. You'll need to cut the links between pins2, 3 & 4 and 9, 10 & 11, leaving 1&2 and 11 & 12 connected, I used a slitting disc to cut the PCB as the links are on the connector side!
I have mounted the decoder with its heatsink against the metal channel chassis under the Aristo PCB as recommended for these high current locos, see your instruction book to remove the PCB.
My dash-9 runs fine on MTS using this decoder.

I did not think this could be done but i have now changed my mind.

What you wi***o do, just verifies my philosophy (spelling is a worry); in that what you wi***o do in the future; should be considered before you purchase something you may not want in the future.

It is pointless fitting an LGB decoder if you do not have the rest of the DCC equipment to drive it. Or the functions in your locomotive that can be actuated with such an expensive decoder.

On my LGB locos i have about 8 functions i can actuate from my MTS controller and it will be very hard to get this sort of thing from a non LGB locomotive.

LGB decoder for Dash-9/SD-45?
Posted by dukebasketballer` on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 4:39 PM
Hi,
I have an Aristo Dash-9 and an SD-45 and I want to install the new LGB decoder 3 in them. Does anyone have experience with installing LGB decoders into Aristo engines?
Thanks,
David
