How to use a Basic Train Engineer R/C outside? Heres one way!

Just a little something...

A portable rig to allow me to use my BTE outside while being able to take it indoors when done.





Its an LGB powerpack, the BTE reciever and an old Lionel track power connector to connect the track power lead wires. Its hard to see but there's two metal L's and a wood dowel with the reciever antenna wrapped under a covering of electrical tape. All this is screwed to a sheet of plywood with trim pieces top and bottom to allow it to rest on top of a smaller piece of ply on top of the 4x4 post below. I'll likely add a shade cover for the reciever as the sun here is hard on electronics.

Set up is really easy, set it down, plug in the pack, attach the leads to the Lionel clip, turn on the pack, and I'm ready to go![:D]

I like it! Neat, simple, easy and quick. Are the receiver and power pack attached to the plywood panel so that you can carry the whole unit with the handle on the front?

I use my Basic TE as an onboard reciever for a battery powered Railbus, outdoors.

A more powerful power supply should be used. The LGB shown is a 1 amp unit and the Basic TE can go to over 2 amps.

Solution I usedwas a discarded laptop power supply. Mine was a 3 amp 20 volt unit and it works great with the Basic TE and the older LGB 2 amp controller. Laptop power packs do output a good DC level under load much like the Aristo Elite, just less current.
