What does semi-shade exactly mean?

It means that they can be safely planted at truckstops and loading docks. (Get it? Shade from a semi.....)[;)][^]

'Partial Shade": Rule of thumb (which can always be violated): 1. Full morning sun followed by full shade in afternoon, 2. In a location with a lattice work "roof" or screening. (In other words filtered sunlight, i.e. under a tree.)

Found several nice (but not quite scale) asparaghas ferns from Lowe's'; so being gullible, I purchased and planted them under my deck which is on the WEST side of the tall house. IOW, it is in the shade the entire winter and half of spring and fall, but gets about 7 hours of sun in summer from the afternoon west hot time of the dog day afternoon.

HOPEFULLYl, I planted them in the right place but if not, no sweat as all 3 plants totalled $6. (supposedly they spread out 3 feet).
