DCC and Garden Railroading
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, April 1, 2006 6:52 PM
I am just getting started in Garden Railroading. I have been modeling in HOn3 for the past 10 years. For control with my HO stuff I have been using the Digitrax Chief system and I love it. How does this crossover to outdoor use. I love the control that I have but I see alot of reference to R/C control. The batteries seem like they would be a hassle. I have just about everything I need to set things up except the decoders. Is this the way to go? What does everyone say on this subject?

Jeff,

That you have dcc already will work in your favour but it is wise that you ask questions before committing to expensive to set up and maintain track power systems.

There have been a number of surveys done as to which is the most popular, track powered dcc or battery R/C.
Battery R/C has way more users for any number of valid reasons. Especially where the weather is inclement.

How well dcc works outdoors can depend a lot on where you live.
Dry climates are more successful than less dry climates.

Best wishes,

Tony Walsham
