If the locomotive is one of Bachmann's early Big Hauler's, like the 4-6-0, just remove the boiler backhead and insert 6 C-cell batteries. The backhead is removed straight up. On the sides, of the battery area, there should be some kind of sticker telling you how to insert the batteries.

If yours is like the one I have, there's a piece that opens up on the backhead, inside the cab. Mine's packed away and I haven't used it in a long time so I can't be more specific.

Does anyone know where the batteries go to make the train run? I received the train as a gift and the controler has batteries but does the train also need batteries to make it run? Your help please
