Politicians are far to busy being LIBERALs and CONSERVATIVEs as well as members of their PARTY to truely give a thought to trifles like THE WILL of THE PEOPLE and the Envrionment. THEY HAVE ELECTIONS TO WIN.

In anycase, there will need to be a generation of true STATESMEN, not politicians, in this next generation on all our CONTINENTS lest we fact the destruction of our ways of life and, most likes, means of remianing alive.

John, I think the best thing we can do is to reduce oxygen consumption. How about we get the UN to legislate that everyone without big trains only gets to breathe every 2nd hour? I reckon within a few days the population of the globe will be down to where we can all run 1000 acre GRs & to hell with the effect of the live steamers!

Geting seriouse about global warming for a bit while I agree more good science is needed.
I think there are practical things we can do at home to help the situation it is apparent that trees IE the lungs of the earth are disapearing real fast and you drive through a lot of suburbs, and not a tree in sight so I reckon if all of us went and chose a suitable tree for our gardens and put it in
By suitable I mean one that is not to big for the garden will not cause hassles for next door and planted it it has to help this incudes fruit trees for those who like to grow there own fruit and veg.
another thing we can do is not dump all that usefull stuff up the tip but find a use for it
or give it to some one who can use it so it gets a second life.
Like using second hand bricks when we build our lines it all helps
and also geting as many plants as our garden can stand both in the ground and in pots
has to help.
The thing about the above they iether improve the amenitie of our property or save us money so if we can all find one or two things we can do and persuade others to find one or two things they can do it all helps.
Its going to take centuries to undo the damadge man has done but I dont think its
impossable if we can all do one or two things that can help.

I agree with your basic premise of exercising good envrionmental practice, However, we also must not fall into the trap of being precipitate!

I remember the days when it was said that eating stuff cooked on the grill caused cancer, followed by eating bacon causing cancer, ad infinitum! It seemed that each week the media would publi***he results of some new study that when added to the ones they had already touted, would indicate that no matter what you did or what you ate, we were all doomed to die of cancer!

Well, You and I are still here, some have died of AIDS, Bird Flu, Car accidents, Old Age, being run over by trains, and a myriad of causes; but the sure thing is that all have not died of cancer!

Much the same can be said about the global warming thing; it takes more scientific evidence to convince me!

As for Global Warming... we have only been keeping records a geologically short time. I think I will reserve judgement on that issue until we have several thousand years of data recorded of such events in scientific detail....but I will be dead by then in any case.

Still...Global Warming be true or not...that is not an excuse for poor environmentalism. We owe good stewardship of the earth to ourselves and our posterity either way.

Here is to a responsible environmental policy!!!

Again thanks for the good wishes, I am the closest member of this forum to "Cyclones Larry and Wati" and it hasn't affescted us much at all.Except i was going to have running day for some of my oldy friends and have had to put it off because of cyclonic rain patterns,

Everything OK down here on the South coast. The cyclone hit WAY north, no deaths or serious injuries but lots of damage, hundreds of houses & businesses damaged or destroyed.
Like Katrina, this was the worst one on record....who is still denying global warming as a fact? It's all the fault of the live-steamers

Just GoogleEarth'ed Ians place. Sunshine Coast looks to be farther south than Cairns where the worst seams to have hit, but not seeing how the storm tracked across the east coast ...

Might be a couple days at least before we hear from Ian, thats if the area got whacked by the storm it could take a while to get phone lines up and running again. Lets hope for the best!

Its over 3000 miles from me I might and only might get a bit wet
later on but if it happens that will be about it.
However it was not so good for those under it Innisfail is by all the accounts
I have heard in a very bad way and its heading North to the gulf country
There will not be any sugar coming out of the place its all gone as has pretty much a large proportion of the area and they are expecting another lot too
come through.
I am sure they would welcome the prayers of those of religiouse persuation
regardless of which one or denomination.
when we get the true picture its going to be bad.
My state has a cyclone brewing up north but again they are usualy rain bearing depresions or what ever the weather people call them by the time they reach me the last one closed the main street due to flooding.
But I am lucky that's normaly all I get wet feet and sweltering humidity for a couple of days after.
I hope Iandor is OK but have no way of knowing and that I think is cause for a few word with the almighty on its own
