You are right, especially about the eccentric articles. By the way, the next issue of GardenRail (April) has my article about my Japanese style railcar [:-^]. So, odd or unusual things will continue to appear in GR.

Yesterday I was sent the February issue of the US Garden Railways Magazine! Three days after getting the new issue. What's with that? [%-)] Luckily I think the Feb issue has more for me personally than the new one, but two in the same week? Oh well...

You mean there's something we get before the USA? I get the British Garden railways as well as the US one and I find the British one quite variable from month to month with some really eccentric articles from time to time. There isn't much in the way of adverts and I tend to rely on going to the shows advertised in the mag to see what most of the small traders are up to.
I would certainly recommend the Garden Rail special they did in 2005 though, the layouts are fantastic, reviewed in GR a month or two back. I continue to support the magazine though it must be difficult finding enough interesting articles and I'd hate to lose the mag.

I just subscribed a few days ago and received the Feb. issue, which I already had bought from Barnes & Noble. But that's ok. I was showing a couple of the mags to one of the guys at our church potluck today and found that his young son is hooked on trains (mainly due to Thomas the Tank Engine). The dad's pretty interested too. So I let them have the extra issue.

[#oops] I guess I jumped the gun a tad then. [sigh] Sorry all of you still waiting for the April issue. Actually, I was expecting to get the Feb. issue so it was a pleasant surprise.

My understanding is that Kalmbach's overseas shipments hit before stateside. Most of us don't have the April issue yet.

So who doesn't have theie April edition of Garden Railways yet?

Does it go faster over the pacific than on land?

Hello David.

The British magazine covers 16mm or SM32 (1/19th scale or 16mm=1 foot), Gauge 0, G-scale, Gauge 1, and on occasion 7/8ths. Having said that, 16mm and G-scale are 90% of the contents. The main difference is the percentage of srticles to adds, about 95/5!!

Hi Matthew,

I used to live in Japan (78-85), courtesy USMC. A lot of us didn't yet receive the GRR in the mail so thus the lack of responses thus far.

I visited Switzerland recently and looked at some Garden RR mags that were in German (which I can't read).

I'd be interested in adding the Brit magazine to my GRR subscription. Do you have a website? Also, how is the UK mag different from GRR in emphasis.

Greetings from Japan!

I'm in rather a good mood [:D] as it is the weekend and not so cold of recent. My mood was lightened further when I got home and was greeted by my five-year-old daughter holding out to me, not one, but two garden railway magazines [:0].

I have subscribed to 'Garden Rail', the british magazine, for almost a year now and have come to appreciated the monthly window on what is going on in the UK. Today I was able to see a completely different view of garden railways (or should I say 'railroading'). Yes, my very first copy of the US garden railway mag!

I wonder if many reading this get more than one regular shot of what's going on in the garden trackwise. It was a real eye-opener, all the more as I was eager to peruse both mags. Yes, both have 'how to' articles, plant profiles, reviews and what have you. But the sheer volume of trade adverts in the US mag is almost overwhelming.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining at all, just interested. Of course it must be a reflection of the degree of trade support for the hobby (sorry, I meant to type - way of life [;)]).

I've not read much of either magazine yet so I'm off to do just that. Please comment on magazines. You may well have commented a hundred times before but humour a newcommer.
