In the post I made on "Capt Carrales' Challenge," of which I am quite proud of the replies [:D], many people's first caveat was that the "wife" or "husband" had to be given a...er...concession.

Also, there were some giving a portion to an ex-spouse.

Well, here it goes (manybe some of you Brits can answer this, since when it come to language, you are closer the the source [:p]) ...

If the plural of mouse is "mice," is the plural of spouse "spice," or is it just plain "rat."

Unless you are in Utah, the plural of "spouse" is 15-20 years felony.

Interestingly the singular of "rice" is in fact "rouse".

Can't say I've heard either 'spouses' or 'spice' in everyday conversation, though the regular plural would appear less confusing. Don't get on to morphemes, it really isn't all that interesting.

The plural for kangaroo is kangaroos but the collective word is kangaroo and the same goes for cockies.
