Phil,

I was kindly reminded of another great attraction in the Milwaukee area. The Mitchell Park Conservatory (known locally as "the domes" because of their shape) will be having their annual garden railway display. Here's some info: http://www.county.milwaukee.gov/display/router.asp?docid=14798

Yes Rene, there are other things in the world to see besides trains, and ain't it nice to have the freedom here in this country to be able to see and talk about them?

Goes back to the old proverb about "All work and no play".

While this may be a train forum, an occasional offtracking isn't always a bad thing, it helps keep things in perspective!

OK people, I think she gets an ATTAGIRL for that one!

Phil, there's a display in Winterset, Iowa, though it's not too elaborate. Here's the info: Rock Island Depot, Madison County Historical Society, 815 S. Second Ave., Winterset IA 50273. Open May 1- Oct. 31, Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday 1-5 p.m. 515-462-2134. mchistory@i-rule.net.

You can email them for details. I've been there and there's a lot of neat stuff to see outside of the trains (gasp!)

Fellow microferroequinologists,
MY wife Kathy & I are travelling to the Quad-Cities, Iowa in late Feb to help celebrate her mother's 90th birthday & for me to visit my alma mater.
I plan on catching a bus to Chicago & then Amtraking to Milwaukee to meet Rene', also to try to get to southern Illinois to meet Ric Golding.
Are there any GRs in the east of Iowa, west of Ill. for me to see? I realise that it'll probably be typical Iowa Feb weather but just to press the flesh of fellow modellers can be fun.
