Springtime in January

What an amazing winter this has been. Today once again the temperature is in the upper 50s F and made the snow melt off my track in a jiffy -- well enough for me to run my Porter.




Should I admit this? I actually took a snooze on my bench during the operating session.

Spring in Australia is from 1 september to 30 November and thats how it should be.

Here on the Sunshine Coast it is summer with temperatures in the mid thirties celsius every day.

However last August we had our coldest day in 50 years it got down to 12 deg C.

Colin, Capt. Bob is correct about where I live. I'm in Cumberland County north of Bridgeton.

I do hope to be at the York train show, probably on Saturday, but will have to wait until mid-March for a final decision.

Capt Bob, I have been there a few times. I love what he has, but the prices aren't exactly what I would call "great" or a "bargain" I got all my LGB from a dealer that I know very well, and he bought a lot of LGB off of a guy, and most of it was brand new, the tape still on the lids, and the handrails still off of the engines and cars. I have to go back to see what he wants for 2 Santa Fe F7 AA units, and that B unit with sound as well. I only got an LGB Porter, and 2 old (by old I mean when they were used prototypically) reefers both from LGB.

Here comes one from Left Field. Yes, I'm in Slower Lower Delaware, but was born & raised in N. Wildwood, then in 1975 moved to Rio Grande. 1993 moved 25 miles down Rt.9!

Had many friends in Avalon, also up in Senile City! My boys went to Middle!

Bill C is more over in the Bridgeton/Millville area.

Go down to Rio Grande and check out Bill Franks "Secluded Acres Nursery", a G-Scale retailer! He's right on Rt.47 about a mile west of the Rio Grande Post Office.

BillC, it is like that here too. I am planning my garden railway right now, so cannot wait until winter next year to run in the snow. Summer should come sooner so I can start laying track, and electrical, etc. We have 2 feet of snow. Where in South Jersey do you live? I have a shore house in Avalon. Are you coming to ECLSTS (East Coast Large Scale Train show) in York in March?

The weather here in South Jersey and the Eastern Seaboard of the USA has taken a drastic turn. Right now we're in the midst of a blizzard.

Here's the scene out of my window with a telephoto. Clockwise from left bottom are my warehouse, water tank, and service station, the last of which will soon be out of sight. A good day to stay inside and watch the Winter Olympics.

Hi T-J, my figures are going through somewhat of a re-think in the way of clothing, but the basic construction remains very basic. I'll get a few more up on the website soon with a few construction pics.

Japan is up and down weather-wise. Last week saw 15C but today the top temp. will only be 3C.

Still, I have a new station to build, inspired by 'Minka' the traditional houses of rural Japan so I don't mind not enjoying some of the weather being reported on this thread.

I should change the name of this thread to Springtime in February because the excellent weather continues. Yesterday was good for train-running with the thermometer reading 64F, which is equal to nearly 18C.

My new LGB Forney is easy to put on the tracks for a quick run. The USA boxcar is from about 1988 and is my oldest piece of equipment. The LGB PRR long steel caboose cost only about $75 as I recall and was an excellent value since it includes ball bearing wheels and is lighted.

Here by the balmy Delaware Capes we had NW wind. at 0400 it was steady 60MPH with gusts to 80MPH. By noon wind was down to 45MPH. Now it's in 25 -35 range!

Temps were below freezing til about 1330, high for the day was about 36F.

Weren't no way I'd go out there and freeze my fingers off playing with trains in that weather, I'll wait for better conditions (unless we get snow to plow).

Benny, Tom, Matthew, HJ and TJ, it was nice while it lasted but all good things must come to an end!

It's well below freezing this morning and everything got a nice dusting of snow as the front moved through. Still plenty of winter weather yet so I really should get started on some sort of building project!

Hey Matthew! I was thinking about you today when I was trying to make a figure for a combine I just bought. You make it look so easy!

Yes, the weather is very balmy, but don't let it fool you, this is not unusual for the time of year, historicaly speaking. Next week it may well ice and snow. This is the time of the year I normaly do my heavy gardening and I was hoping to be working on the new and improved Dixie D, but alas! I have to finish my house first, then some other projects before I can work on hobbies. I hate to waste the cooler weather.............

Ah my friends, the weather is a bit loopy. But 15ºC would send me into a panic!

But do not fear, up on the mountain - that's where it counts! - we got approx. 40cm (16" for the metrically impaired) of snow the past 48 hours. Nice white, fluffy powder!
By tomorrow the tracks will be set to perfection! Aahhhhhhhhh Spring is sometimes in late April! [8D][8D][:D][:D]

It’s another spring-like day here in South Jersey despite the fact that the calendar says January. The thermometer reads 60 F, which translates to about 15 C. There’s coal in those tippers behind the steam tram, but let’s hope that most of it will go unused during the remaining months of winter.
