Kicked off EBay - Not

Got an email that I was kicked off EBay. Since I was a good paying customer who alway had positive feedback, that seemed a little strange. Well, it's probably another one of those scams that tries to get you ID numbers. Like everyone else I ignored it.

You did the right thing - if you still have it, ebay have an address where you can forward these scam emails so they can attempt to chase down the people sending them. They turn up in most people's inboxes on a regular basis, ebay would never ask for your details in that way (they already have them), the same goes for banks, etc.

Yes. It's a scam to get your ebay ID and Password. Ebay investigates these and appretiates if you forward it to [e-mail] .

Notice the link is to a computer's ip address, not ebay.com[;)]

A general rule to follow about being "kicked off" somewhere is that most companies don't warn--they just do it. When you track down their information and contact them, then they'll explain.

FYI, trying to scare you in to typing in your personal information (such as password or credit card) is called "Phishing." There's so many phishing schemes out there that they outnumber real notices 100:1.

Kinda like these new ones that the CIA or FBI have tracked your computer on illegal sites and want you to answer questions. My anti virus is flagging every one of them cause they carry the sober virus!

Duh! Like law enforcement is going to let you know they are detecting illegal stuff from you before they put the cuffs on you! Methinks they'd invite you to the precinct to answer those questions if they really wanted to know!

I keep getting emails claiming to be from the administrator of my own site that contain nothing but a virus attachment. Norton catches them before I even know they're here.

I get those, too. If it would be worth my while I'd reply via a very convoluted detour that couldn't be traced. But it isn't worth it!
I think that much of that garbage is generated by drones and robots.... or they are too stupid to look at the source code of the different sites. Either way, may all their 'puters have a HDD seizure!

Apparently things are getting so hot and heavy with all these scams that even our local paper had an article about it. The usual warning about identity theft and the only remedy that works: One look and delete!

BTW between SPAMKILLER on the POP mailer and YAHOO's "BULK" feature there isn't much junk getting through in this house.
Perhaps I mentioned this before, but it is still neat. SPAMKILLER can be set to sound audio alerts for different events. In the case of spam being eliminated it it is the sound of a shot ringing out. [;)][}:)][:D][:D] Now if they'd have the animation of a guy rubbing his hands that would be even better!

I had to keep an eye on my spam checker. It tended to sort notes that people were sending me money to buy things to spam[:o]

I had a spam program that would send a nasty reply, but that just let the spammer know they had a real email address. Not a good idea.

The most creative approach I've heard of was a guy who would do a little research and find an address. Then he'd send them a huge invoice for his service. Something like $100/hour minimum 5 hours for his consulting time. A couple times somebody actually paid his invoice!

I got one of those about 2 months ago. Only problem is, I've never sold or bought from E-Bay!! Knew it had to be a scam.

Just to rub it in a bit, since I have a Mac, I'm nearly immune to the viruses and junk that you other guys have to worry about. [:D]

BTW an aquaintance who runs a printing business has a network with WinTel and Mac intermixed. He tells me that both types have snags, they are just different snags. [:p]

Short of switching to Mac or better yet Linux, I just make sure that as few apps as possible on our machines originate from Redmond, WA. Makes life easier.[;)][:)][;)]

[#ditto] ... the part about Redmond products. I do have the office suite, so I'm not perfect. [:)]

I can say that I've never, ever had a virus in the 13+ years of running a Mac. The only reason I said nearly was because I'm sure someone, somewhere had gotten a Mac bug...I know it's not 100% infallable. [;)]

I will say that I've had 100 times more problems with my year-old HP than I've ever had on any Mac. Your suggestion about Linux isn't bad. I'm a designer and not a techie, so I need my Adobe apps. BTW: Buy a Mac, get a free Unix box inside! [8D]
