hello all i am a proud owner of my grandpas lionel train set now. He never taught me how to hook it up growing up and he has past now. I have put it around my xmas tree and it looks wonderful. i'd like to get it running but am afraid to hook it up. the transformer i have is a train master type kw 115 volt, 60 cycle 190 watts. it has 2 control on the top a and b a red light and whistle red lever, along w/ 2 direction buttons. i have the track and engine a few cars on the track now. I have the lionel ctc lock on clipped on to the track w/ 2 wires attached to it. number one and two. were should i hook it up to the back of the transformer, the following is on the back of the transformer FROM LEFT TO RIGHT TOP TO BOTTOM LINE

the kids would love it if i can get her going i believe it is a o gauge thanks mike

The KW has, oh Lord, two knows?
Anyway, "U" is the common.
Hook one track wire (any wire) to either "U" terminal.
Connect the other to "A" for knob "A", "B" for knob "B".
If you connect from "U" to "C", you get 6V fixed, "C" to "D", 14V fixed, etc.

You won't hurt anything however you hook it up.

Yeah, I went and looked.
Two handles, should have an "A" on one red knob, a "B" on the other.

Oh, and BTW.....make DAXX sure you lubricate that engine before you run it!
What engine number on the cab?
If a sidewinder steamer, the most absolutely critical part is where the armature shaft sticks through the brush holders into either bakelite, phenolic, or later on plastic.
Do BOTH sides, all idler gear shafts, and axles.
Light grease on gears.
If other, tell me the number and I'll walk you through it from memory (except a 773).

the engine says 1666 on the side toward the rear of the engineer compartment, i hooked up the u wire to the track and the other to the a and the lamp lights up in the front of the engine makes buzz noise no go either controller ;(

Okay, you cranked it up full?
Lamps are bright?
This is a 1947 vintage 2-6-2 Prairie, not a clamshell motor block , "E" unit is probably sticking (or fingers burned, or drum pivot pegs failed).
The loco does roll, right?
If so, crank up power halfway and manually operate "E" unit (chrome lever sticking through top of boiler) back and forth, listening for "E" unit click as it drops out and pull the pawl up.


This is fixable.

the lamp on the loc isnt to bright and the only way to get it to light up and buzz is to hook up the transformer u to track 1 and track 2 to the c 6 volt terminal on the transformer, moved the chrome lever backa nd forth and pulled up and down alos no go still, i think i am doing something wrong ugggggg
