Ok..... What is the best smoke fluid, Now the catch will it "clog" the[censored] wicks in the Aristo SD-45 type smoker [banghead][B)]and then work in the LGB and MTH (my newest loco/ Christmas present ) [:D][:D]units. What are your experience with the smoke fluid of your choice [soapbox]

Hi there,
I believe we have had several discussions in the past regarding what works, what does'nt, what' s cheap, what's not....etc. etc. A lot of great suggestions were made. Do a search here on "Smoke fluid". That should give you some great info. All the best with your new locos. Later eh...Brian.

I really like the old "toxic" American Flyer smoke fluid. It smells a bit like frankincense, but that's miles better than the stuff they use now in the MTH loks at shows (bleah). As for whether it would plug up your smoke generator, well...first you'd have to find some,

Parrifin oil, what the US calls Mineral oil. You can also use lamp oil or even vegetable cooking oil. None of it will clog if you don't overfill.

I only use what the manufacturers suggest.
Aristo fluid in aristo locos, lgb fluid in lgb locos.
Problem is the wicks can get gummed up with the wrong fluid and the smoke units will cease to work. Sofar this has not happened to me.

Weeeeeeelllllllllllll Right now I am trying the MTH stuff, loved the smell. I didn't like the LGB stuff to much [xx(] It seemed to run-out to fast[%-)][:(] I did order some of the Megasteam stuff from www.megasteam.com . There seemed to be some good "flavors"[C=:-)] so I got five bottles of the different " flavors "[C=:-)] we will see how well they work.[dinner]

Call it LGB, Bahmann, Astro whatever, its all the same stuff with a colour or scent added. Get a couple of empty 35mm containers and go and see your local Fire Service training centre. Ask if you can get a little smoke generator oil. They will probably laugh at you wanting only that much but its the real stuff, before everyone adds their additive to brand it....In fact, you may find the stuff you have been paying a fortune for is actually dilluted.
If anything clogs the burners / jets etc its probably the additives.
